Here are some of the photos taken at freddies recent 1st birthday cake smash photo shoot at my home studio in south Ockendon Essex.

I can provide the birthday cake if required but this time mum provided it made by Frddies Auntie and what a lovely cake it was just perfect for the nice blue theme that mum requested.

Freddie rather liked it as well.

It was the first time using my clear perspex on the floor and I think I like the effect it gives a nice shiny floor with a reflection

I provide all baloons pom poms decorations and outfits. Freddies mum chose this popular grey and white spotty outfit with matching nappy cover braces and hat.

The raggy bunting is always a popular choice made by the lovely minnie and morgan photography props.

I had the pleasure of photographing baby Max and his family a few weeks ago. He came with his mum dad and big sister who was two.

He was a little star in his session and after iinittially not wanting to go to sleep he dropped off and slept like a baby throught his session. I usually start off with baby in a wrap which makes them feel secure and they normally drift off to sleep. I can then pose them like in the picture below of Max holding his foot. Each pose can take quite a while to perfect and not every baby will stay in the pose you put them in. I try for each pose I would like but sometimes the baby has his own idea where he wants his hand and will not leave it where you want it. This was not the case with Max as you can see in this lovely picture of him. He was quite easy to pose and stayed in the pose once moved into it. Once baby is on the bean bag One pose flows into another usually very smoothly.

Normally after this pose I gradually unwrap the baby and do a few shots lying on babies side noramlly holdng a small teddy . Then If the baby allows and is still in a deep sleep I turn baby on to his front and remove the nappy to get a nice natural tushie up pose as it is called or baby can have on one of my super cute newborn pants or rompers if mum does not want baby without any clothes on

After this pose I will put baby into taco pose Most babies find the next pose quite comfortable as it is quite often how they were in the womb

From this pose if baby is still sound asleep I will move to head on hands pose facing forwards. There are lots of different ways of doing this pose I will go with what the baby seems to be comfortable in as my main priority is to keep the baby happy sleepy and comfy. At all times when baby is in a pose I am checking babies feet and hands that blood circulation is good

Usually I will move on to prop shots now that I have got the posed shots that I want. In Max's case mum did not want any props just nice natural shots so i did a nice textured natural pose in fur and knitted coccoon which I think just looks so cozy and i love the textures together

Mum wanted some shots of her two children together so next i did some of Max with his sister. Considering she was only two she was very well behaved and i got some lovely shots of the two of them together . Here is just a couple of them

After the sibling shots I took natural parent shots

Next I did complete family shots.

Below is just an example of one shot taken.

I hpe you enjoyed reading a little bit more about how my newborn sesssions run. The pictures are just a few examples from Max's session.

This session was a bit different to my normal ones as i usually do a couple of prop set ups as well. However Every session is different and is totally led by the baby. If baby is awake and not sleepy I might start with wrapped poses in props or do family shots first.

Today I thought I would blog a bit about newborn photography photo shoots in babies older than two weeks old.

This seems to be the cut off point that some photographers use for newborn photo shoots.

To me there is no cut off point. I am working for you the client and every baby is differenet what ever age they are.

Some babies are born two weeks overdue so in theory if they have a newborn photo shoot at two weeks old they are already 4 weeks old.

Other babies are born early. Little Scarlett I had in recently was born 6 weeks early she came to visit me at 9 weeks old which in theroy would have made her 3 weeks . Other photographers would not have booked her in for a session as she would have been too old!

How could anyone not love having an image like this of their gorgeous baby . It is never too late for a photo shoot. Maybe you might not get the sleepy poses but awake poses are gorgeous too. In Scarletts case we got both.

This image of her looking at her mum and dad with such awe and love is something that will be treasured by all of them for many years to come. That feeling of happiness and love of holding your new baby is something only new parents will ever know . An image like this tells a story and to anyone looking at this image without know ing anything about the people in it would see A young family just starting off on their exciting journey of parenthood looking forward to all the ups and downs that life will throw at them. At this moment in time the most important thing on their mind is that litle girl and how much joy she is going to bring them both.

The beauty of an older baby is getting great awake shots like this showing of the colour of her beautiful blue eyes. I have a vast selection of props, newborn outfits, knitted sets teddies, and bunnies for baby to hold.

How gorgeous does Archie look lying on my soft beautiful fur . At this age babies are so knowing and can interact with you. Here he is looking directly at the camera with such a knowing look. Really concentrating on me and what I am doing.

At this age I can still use ptops for the photo shoot just might have to wrap the baby a bit more to contain them.

At this age baby is smiling so some lovely smiles can be captured on camera. Also baby is much stronger laying on his front and holding his head up.

I still have lots of little knitted outfts and accessories for older babies as well.

At this age it is still possible to do this pose whether baby is awake or asleep . This photo is actually taken with baby lying on a bean bag covered in black fur with parents hands just underneath him. Making it look like baby is being held in mid air. I am trained in newborn posing and safety and in all my poses babies saftey and comfort is the most important thing of the shoot

I had the pleasure of photographing these two little boys recently.

They both share the same birthday so I thought it only apt to do a joint post about their sessions.

I photographed Enzo first he was a real cutie with big Brown eyes and lovely curly hair. He was very well behaved and had his little mini photo shoot first where he wore my little vintage grey outft made by @SewingSLB consisting of a nappy cover and waistcoat . The outfit was topped off by a grey felt cap that I already had in my stock of outfits.

I normally sit babies that are crawling on something to start with, with a parent just in arms reach for babies safety, baby tends to sit for a while and get some nice pictures before the mad dash around. At this point I normally get the other parent to blow bubbles.

After the mini shoot I got everything ready for the cake smash whilst mum got him changed into his chosen cake smash outfit. He is seen here wearing white and grey spot pants with matching bow tie , grey braces and matching first birthday party hat. Either I can provide the cake (for a fee) or clients can bring their own. The cake I provide is a giant cup cake usually with babies name on and a large number 1on it. The Back drop colour and decorations are chosen by the parents before the session. Here Enzo is seen on my white farmhouse mock flooring from click props with a storm grey creativity back drop and raggy bunting by @minnieandmorgan. I provide the decorations and baloons to tie in with the colour scheme as well

Enzo quite enjoyed the cake but found the icing a bit too sweet for his taste after getting quite messy a clean up in my tub is called for. Enzos parents chose the more vintage tin tub for his splash session. i use my rub a dub duck back drop for the bath session unless a plain one is requested.

If you baby has a bath robe bring it as it is nice to have a few pictures taken in it before going in the tub.

The next little boy was Freddie who came with his Mum Dad and Nan. Again another little cutie. They chose bascally the same set up as Enzo but instead of the grey creativity backdrop I used sky blue. He is wearing the same @sewingSLB outfit for his photo shoot. He was quite happy sitting on my vintage storage tub whilst bubbles were being blown. After mums suggesion Im going to invest in a bubble blowing machine. This will save the parents having to do it.

Again after his mini shoot Freddies mum chose the same grey and white spot cake smash outfit.

Freddie was a bit tentative about getting stuck in to his cake to start with he had a little taste and quite liked it.

After Dad decided to rub his hands and feet all in it he had a bit of a melt down. he did not like the feeling of mucky hands and legs. Luckliy I managed to get enough pictures beforehand. It might pay before a babies first cake smash to get them used to the feel of being messy and the taste of sweet icing otherwise as in Freddies case it can be a bit daunting. (or keep dads away and let baby explore the cake slowly and get used to the feel of it first). I do also provide a plastic spoon so if baby does not like getting dirty hands they can bash the cake with the spoon which they like.

Freddies mum chose my Denny Rub A Dub Tub roll top bath by LUXS this is a bath certainly fit for a little prince or princess. There are also lots of rubber ducks to play with and bubbles as well.

I do have an option to purchase a collage print at your viewing session either on a foam board or a canvas. Here is a mock up of Little freddies one

I have a large vaiety of outfits for babies first cake smash photo shoots including matching bunting, cake topppers etc. I also have outfits for the mini photo shoot to start with . Here are just a some of the cake smash outfits that I have. I do have some matching outfits for twins as well including boy, boy twins, girl, girl twins or girl, boy twins .

My Cake smash and Splash sessions are getting very popular So please book early to avoid disapointment.

Just thought I would share some more images from Maddies session. She came to have her newborn photo shoot several weeks ago at 19 days new.

She was born at 9lbs 1 ozs so was quite large by the tims she came to see me.

Mum and Dad wanted nice natural shots and poses with no outfits. As Maddie did not really like being put down and moved too much . I chose nice simple wrapped poses which made her feel more secure and settle into sleep. She was not too happy being moved into the normal baby poses so I went with what she was happy to do.

Every baby is differernt and I will work with how the baby is and spend as much time as it needs to get the lovely shots for mum and dad.

They were very happy with the finshed images .

I managed to get the final shot in the little pram set up ready for her with her name on. I normally like to try and get one prop shot bespoke to each baby set up a bit different with babies name in the picture.
