Becoming a Parent and an Entrepreneur at the Same Time

Having a baby is an exciting time, but it can also be overwhelming. If you’re thinking of starting your own business during this period, you’ll need to be prepared and organized. Here are some tips to help make this transition easier, presented below by Tracy Main Photography.

Set Up Your Company

Starting your own company is a great way to protect yourself and your assets. You’ll need to choose a business structure, though. A limited liability partnership (LLP) is a popular choice because of the legal protections and tax benefits, but each structure has its own pros and cons, so see what others in your field are going and consider carefully.

Next, you’ll need to set up a marketing campaign. Don’t just spread the word via social media. Try some other methods as well, like newsletters. If you aren’t sure where to begin, start in Word, add some eye-catching images, then save your newsletter as a PDF. If you go to email it and you’re having trouble with the file size, using a tool like this could help make it easier to get the word out.

Set Up Routines

Having a routine in place when juggling both business and parenting can make all the difference. It will help keep you organized, efficient, and on track with both responsibilities. However, it is important to make sure these routines are flexible enough to handle unexpected changes such as illnesses, doctor appointments, etc. so that no tasks get overlooked.

Share Responsibilities with Your Partner

Taking on different roles in a household is important for couples. Childcare, grocery shopping, and meal preparation are all tasks that can be split up between partners. This ensures that both parents are able to take on as much responsibility as possible, leading to less stress and faster completion of each task.

Create a Baby Room Close to Your Home Office

Working from home while having a baby or a young child can be difficult. Having a dedicated space for them near your home office can help alleviate some of the stress that comes with it. Setting up a play area nearby will give them a safe place to play and explore without disrupting your workflow too much, making it easier for you to keep an eye on them.

Use a Hands-Free Pumping Bra to Multitask

Breastfeeding moms should consider purchasing or using a hands-free pumping bra. This will let them multitask while pumping milk for their babies. This will allow them to continue working uninterrupted while still being able to provide nourishment for their child without having to stop what they’re doing every few hours or so.

Set a Defined Work Schedule

It’s important to set specific times for work-related tasks so that everything gets done without feeling overwhelmed by the demands of being both parent and entrepreneur at once. Setting aside specific times each day/week for work-related tasks will help ensure that everything gets done without sacrificing family time or quality time spent with friends/loved ones outside of work responsibilities.

Schedule Self-Care Time

Being both a parent and entrepreneur means there won’t always be enough time in the day for self-care activities like exercising, reading books/articles related to personal growth, spending time outdoors, etc., But it is important not to forget about yourself during this period of transition. Make sure you carve out some “me” time each day even if it’s just 10 minutes dedicated solely towards self-care activities like meditation or deep breathing exercises which can help restore balance during stressful times like these.

Starting a business when welcoming a new baby may seem daunting but it doesn’t have to be. With proper planning and organization, anyone interested in becoming both parent and entrepreneur at the same time should feel confident knowing that they have all the necessary tools needed for success. By forming an LLP, promoting your work, and making time for self-care, anyone interested in taking this next step towards independent adulting should feel more than ready.
